Vintage Ads that make you go "What???"

I have found so many vintage things around the internet and thought I would start sharing them with you all. For starters. How we begin with a look back and some ads that leave you wondering...

"Babies who start drinking soda during that early formative period have a much higher chance of gaining acceptance and "fitting in" during those awkward pre-teen and teen years."

I guess it would be all that bouncing off the walls together.

"The malt in the beer supplies nourishing qualities that are essential at this time and the hops acts as an appetizing and stimulating tonic"

Notice it says "case" of beer - for the heavy drinking family.

As another ad in this campaign stated "For only your taste and throat can decide which cigarette tastes best to you ... and how it affects your throat."

You mean like throat cancer?

"Easy to Swallow"
Of course they are easy to swallow - they just slither right down.

  1. It's a crazy world, those ads if printed today would be on every news media world wide, madness when you come to think about it.
Thank you, look forward to seeing more.

  2. Hi Ingrid,

I'm delighted to have discovered you and your blogs. Love your attitude and determination to create a happy life for yourself and your kids.

    These ads bring back memories.

First, from my growing-up days, but second because when I taught critical thinking I had my students analyze ads rather than boring manuscripts. They selected a product, like cigarettes, and traced how ads changed over the years using their analysis and evaluation skills. Finally, almost all the products have become controversial, so they had to point that out as well. The final project had to presented as a PowerPoint. Some of them did an outstanding job. Even though I've retired, I still have those presentations on flash drives.

    Thanks.

  3. Fascinating ads from another era. I remember my mum telling me "Now eat all that fat up, it'll do you good"

I also loved your comments. Keep up the humour, it helps you stay sane.

    1. I remember those old days of fat-eating. My folks actually had a cookbook called "Eat Fat and Grow Slim". I like to keep things light and funny but I think the question of my sanity might be a moot point at this stage.

I'm following your blog now, Tony. I can't understand a lick of what you're writing, but I guess that's the difference between England's English and America's English. Or in the words of an old childhood friend: Why can't people from England speak English so we Americans can understand them?

Anywho, thanks for stopping by and leaving your encouraging comment. :D
